Beauty In Strength Woman Of The Month

Each month at Beauty In Strength we highlight one of our valuable members that has put extraordinary effort into her fitness. BiS is about recognising the pure Beauty we have in every aspect of our lives. It’s not just about how we turn up everyday to training it’s how we ‘show up’ to life on a day to day basis.

Congratulations Lisa Nimmo!

Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself and your work?

My name is Lisa and I am 28 years old.  I live in Brisbane and love all things travel and to zone out with a good book.  I currently work shift work as a flight attendant and have done this for the last 7 years – this can be a very demanding and tiring job so quite often exercise is the first thing to go out the window in my routine.

What does Beauty In Strength mean to you?

Beauty in Strength to me is a lifestyle, not just a training program.  It is living a positive, healthy and connected life.

What were your initial goals before starting the BiS program?

To get back into training after a very long time off!

How do you think your sessions have helped you?

I am definitely stronger physically and motivated to complete each session (I managed my first ever ‘real’ push up while completing the program!!).  The accountability through the Facebook group and Darcia’s messages really helped to ensure that I was completing the workout each day.  More importantly the emotional/mental side of the program has really helped me ask questions of myself that I haven’t really thought to do before i.e.  who inspires you? What are you grateful for today? What/Who motivates you?  This has really helped to open my mind and stop to think about these things in more depth than I usually would have.  The community that Darcia has created really helped to support and encourage each other throughout the journey.

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?

The way I feel afterwards!  Im not really too concerned with the aesthetic side of it (although a ripped set of abs would be nice!) its more the feeling of having achieved something and the energy to make the most of the day.

Has the BiS philosophy helped you in your everyday life? How?

Absolutely – I have started a daily gratitude journal, setting realistic short term goals for myself and have continued to exercise daily over the christmas break.  I am finding that I am taking the time to reach out to friends and family to ensure that I am surrounding myself with a positive and supportive environment.

What would you say to someone who’s looking at getting started?

Do it!! You absolutely will not regret it!  Beauty in Strength is more than just an exercise program!

Share your success. Is there something happening in your life right now that you are proud of? Our BiS community would love to celebrate with you

I am currently learning to paraglide solo.  I have been putting it off for so long that in October last year I finally decided I would give it a go.  It has been one of the biggest mental challenges that I have ever put myself through, but I have learnt so much about myself and my emotions through learning a new skill.  I have a couple of things left to complete the course and then I will be signed off to fly on my own.  I cannot wait to be travelling around the world flying my paraglider, free as a bird!
